  • So Many Unnamed Sources

And it’s not just US “mainstream” influencers. It’s endemic. I just move on automatically.

  • COBOL Update COBOL for GCC is being submitted for inclusion in GCC 15. Downloads from COBOLworx of work in progress. Old-school COBOL without Report Writer(yet) or a tested SQL strategy. Feedback/Contributions Welcome :-)

  • Another day of weather exile. Idalia messed up travel back today.

    30 August 2023
  • Cloudy, cool, and breezy beach day.

    28 August 2023
  • We gathered for Mom’s Memorial almost a month ago. She was still going strong at 98 until her body gave up on her!

    22 August 2023
  • Now that #gnucobol has released 3.2, we’re updating its source level debugger.

  • Lagging on updating the testsuite “borrowed” from #gnucobol to skip tests for features not (yet) implemented. 😢 sick days. Pollen is very heavy right now. #gcobol

    21 April 2023
  • gdb-cobol, the adapted gdb for #gcobol, is getting some attention. Has fallen behind both GCC and gcobol evolution. Also excellent progress on the GnuCOBOL testsuites. #cobol

  • A Sunday Morning

The clouds drifted out to see at around 9:00 and a (relatively) clear blue sky took over. Pippen got to chase a few sanderlings into the air. It was a good morning.

  • Second Help-Desk ticket for gcobol this week. Same guy. Great enthusiasm. Working on an explainer for differences between GnuCOBOL and COBOL for GCC in compiling and linking “modules” for proper dynamic loading.

    1 April 2023
  • Another beautiful morning on the beach after a Cold Front cleared out. 4 failing #gcobol tests fixed with the latest build. And a bug report from a user. Great morning!

    31 March 2023
  • Big Day for gcobol

COBOL for GCC (#gcobol) has received an Administrative Approval from the GCC Project as a new front-end! This is a big step for the team! Thanks #gcc!

    21 March 2023
  • Slashdot had a nice article on #codon, a python to machine code compiler. So I installed it and pointed it a python program. And got a puzzling “dedent error” message. 🤔 Oh well. Off to the docs!

    19 March 2023
  • GnuCOBOL continues to be a joy. The OpenLDAP log analysis tool is being converted from Python to COBOL. Fun!

  • gcobol update

The joys of hard problems. #cobol for #gcc trudges along. Declaratives (error handling) checked in. File-IO moving along. #cobolworx

  • Nice. Jacket found in a thrift shop, original tag on. Paid $15.

    13 March 2023
  • Pollen on a rain puddle. Allergy season.

    8 March 2023
  • Quick COBOL for GCC related update. We’ve moved past NIST’s Nucleus tests into I/O and other modules. Another report sent to the GCC list last week. Solid progress. Also RC2 for GnuCOBOL 3.2! :-D

    20 February 2023
  • Weeks of working on #GnuCOBOL tests as a test suite for COBOL for GCC. Slowly isolating ISO-IEC compliant test without GnuCOBOL’s rich support for dialects so we can narrow initial focus. Grinding stuff.

  • Dark out … summer-like thunderstorm rolling through. A fit background for wandering around in COBOL testsuites.

    4 January 2023
  • A spasm of work in the garage. So much to put away after the New Years Eve party we neede “room”. So, reorganizing space and chucking what should have been discarded years ago made big space.

    Felt good. And I’m tired.🥱

    1 January 2023
  • Three days of autotest test suites. Brain-fry. Mixed in, a “sacred text” Discussion about the number of angels on the head of a pin. #gcobol will be the better for all of it.

  • More fun with irrigation on sub-freezing mornings. The city’s irrigation of a roadside planting. Fernandina Beach, Florida.

    26 December 2022
  • People left their irrigation systems running so they came on overnight in this morning. We are still in the 20s. Much frozen grass, many ice stuff driveways, and black ice puddles on a few of the roads. Most amuzing!

    25 December 2022
  • On our way into the 20s(F) again four many hours tonight. The frost in the pictur above never fully defrosted today. EPOCHal!
