  • 90 minutes to fix the IKEA desk. When I put it together I put the top of the podium on the bottom. It basically required taking the whole thing apart and starting over. But I left the top bolted to the table top so I didn’t have to do that all over again. Looks the same but it’s done.

  • First attempt at fixing the desk. Epic FAIL. The Pedestal top was installed on the bottom. And all I had was a little play screwdriver. More tomorrow.

  • “The Once and Future COBOL” talk went up on youtube. Jim did a great job! Great conference.

  • So Many Unnamed Sources

And it’s not just US “mainstream” influencers. It’s endemic. I just move on automatically.

  • COBOL Update COBOL for GCC is being submitted for inclusion in GCC 15. Downloads from COBOLworx of work in progress. Old-school COBOL without Report Writer(yet) or a tested SQL strategy. Feedback/Contributions Welcome :-)

  • Lagging on updating the testsuite “borrowed” from #gnucobol to skip tests for features not (yet) implemented. 😢 sick days. Pollen is very heavy right now. #gcobol

    21 April 2023
  • gdb-cobol, the adapted gdb for #gcobol, is getting some attention. Has fallen behind both GCC and gcobol evolution. Also excellent progress on the GnuCOBOL testsuites. #cobol

  • A Sunday Morning

The clouds drifted out to see at around 9:00 and a (relatively) clear blue sky took over. Pippen got to chase a few sanderlings into the air. It was a good morning.

  • Second Help-Desk ticket for gcobol this week. Same guy. Great enthusiasm. Working on an explainer for differences between GnuCOBOL and COBOL for GCC in compiling and linking “modules” for proper dynamic loading.

    1 April 2023
  • Another beautiful morning on the beach after a Cold Front cleared out. 4 failing #gcobol tests fixed with the latest build. And a bug report from a user. Great morning!

  • Big Day for gcobol

COBOL for GCC (#gcobol) has received an Administrative Approval from the GCC Project as a new front-end! This is a big step for the team! Thanks #gcc!

  • Slashdot had a nice article on #codon, a python to machine code compiler. So I installed it and pointed it a python program. And got a puzzling “dedent error” message. 🤔 Oh well. Off to the docs!

    19 March 2023
  • GnuCOBOL continues to be a joy. The OpenLDAP log analysis tool is being converted from Python to COBOL. Fun!
